A symbol is a mark, sign or word that indicates, signifies, or is understood as representing an idea, object, or relationship.
Each of these artists has their own personal symbology; marks and signs representing their ideas and a system to make sense of the world around them through visual rhetoric.
Symbols allow people to go beyond what is known or seen by creating linkages between otherwise very different concepts and experiences.
Alan Campbell is a Glasgow based artist whose work focuses on literature, story telling and word play. He works across a range of paper based media, working in screenprinting, mixed media drawing, digital imaging and book works.
Ashley Cook is graduate of GSA who works in screenprinting and digital imaging, her work tends to be narrative and emotionally driven; focusing on the human form, with the titles having a central position to resonate with the imagery.
Maureen Rocksmoore paints in oil and is best known for her Skyscapes. After graduating she worked in Architectural practice before eventually deciding to pursue her love of painting with vigour. She has also pursued a varied career in Community Art and is an Art Specialist in schools, developing her own program of therapeutic input for specialist education.
